ABOUT Me

Mac Daniel V. Palima is a developing dance artist and has recently graduated from De Montfort University (DMU), achieving First Class Honours. Born in the Philippines, I am trained in classical Filipino folk dance, gymnastics, contemporary dance, and ballet. Whilst at DMU, I have worked for a local dance company in Leicester - Fuelled Dance Theatre. I aim to develop my own movement vocabulary by fusing the influences of my training from both eastern and western styles of dancing. I am particularly interested in understanding how the body works - the articulation of limbs and the aesthetics of movement.  The amalgamation of these concepts allows me to create work that interrogates gender and sexual identity, and socio political concerns.

My recent choreographic work 'Sekseneutraal' is a solo which explores the gender codes of movements, has been performed at HandMade Festival's 'Us & Them' and at Let's Dance International Frontiers 2017 festival (LDIF). 'Sekseneutraal' is currently undergoing a development as a 30-minute duration piece, which will be performed at LDIF 2018. This work is also being reworked in as a dance for digital film which is commissioned by Rural Media, which will be shown as part of Channel 4's Random Acts platform. From September 2017, I will be undertaking a Masters Degree in Dance Performance and Dance, as a member of Transitions Dance Companyat Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
