Eyyoo Blog! Say "Hello" to the world!
Greetings ninjas,
Starting a blog has always been on my bucket list for a while, and it is a place where I want to share with you all the work that I have been doing and will be up to. As I type with a nervous reflex mixed with a super excited facial expression, I can tell you right now, I am like a shy sheep ready to ready to leap into the wilderness. There is no turning back!
Firstly, I must say that the events which I have been lucky to experience for the past few years leading up to now, in both personal and professional life has been wild, thus inspiring this endeavour. My final year of studying Dance at De Montfort University (DMU) has particularly made quite an impression on my decision of pursuing a career as a performer within the industry. Thanks DMU! I will forever 'Dare To Be Fearless'. While studying, I have been accepted as an apprentice/dance member of a Leicester based dance company - Fuelled Dance Theatre, performing my third year solo 'Sekseneutraal' at platforms such as Handmade Festival's 'Us & Them' and Let's Dance International Frontiers 2017 festival (LDIF), (*disclaimer: I am going to develop this same work for as a longer durational piece for LDIF 18! Woooo!). I have also been researching and writing my dissertation titled: Bridging the Gap: A study of androgynous male dancers who challenged the visual representations of men in dance; and I kid you not, it was mad but so worth it! My seniors were not lying when they said that 'It is A LOT of work'! In the midst of all of these achievements and other things like assessments, I have been auditioning for Masters programmes that give students the opportunity to train while being a part of a dance company. I, through hours of hard work and determination have been accepted by a pretty iconic dance school within Europe. I will write about this in another post because then I have other things to talk about. Haha!
Recently, I have also collaborated with a fellow DMU Dance peer, Hettie Holman (she is a boss at what she does), to rework my solo as a dance for film. I will also talk about this in another post because the project that we are doing is in working progress. I would just like to share it because it is very important for both of us, not just because we are both from Devon, but professionally as well. It will hopefully be shown at Channel 4's Random Acts platform. That is all you need to know so far...hehehe
Anywho, I will leave you with this for now. There is alot that I want to write about and I cannot express to you enough how excited I am for my growth and the future, whatever it may bring. I am so overwhelmed and humbled by all of your support, and I shall be diligent to create work that I can gift to you in the form of dance and visual art.
Keep your eyes peeled. Ninja coming through!
